Artist's Biography –
David Goldblatt was born in Randfontein in 1930. His parents came to South Africa to escape the persecution of Lithuanian Jews in 1890. Due to religious persecution and alienation, David began photographing and documenting South African society. He ended up doing it for over 50 years.
Personal Reaction –
David Goldblatt's photos seem to have a lot of emptiness and emotion at the same time and in a way relates to his personal viewpoint of what society is like in South Africa. It is nice also how he has his subjects looking right at the camera in some of the shots because it makes them personable.
