Joseph Beuys
Joseph Beuys was an artist from the 20th century. He worked as a sculptor, performance artist, art theorist. He was born in 1921 in Germany. One example of his work was a performance piece from 1974 titled I Like America and America Likes Me. He flew to New York and was taken by ambulance to a room with a wild coyote In the ambulance he was covered with a felt blanket. In this room he spent many hours interacting with the coyote. After three days, he hugged the coyote, wrapped himself back up in his blanket, and rode in an ambulance back to the airport. Beuys was quoted as saying "'I wanted to isolate myself, insulate myself, see nothing of America other than the coyote."
