Andy Warhol

Title: Marilyn 1967
Artist: Andy Warhol
Medium: Screenprint
Year: 1967

Artist's Biography – Andy (Andrew) Warhol lived from 1928 to 1987. He was the leader of a visual movement during a time known as the counterculture in American history. He worked with a concept known as pop art, which works to isolate the subject from its original context to focus on the subject alone. He repeated the images several times using vivid colors and turned the images into one piece. He became a very successful artist in his time, selling his highest priced painting at $100 million dollars for a painting called, "Eight Elvises" developed in 1963, which only compares to the selling prices of top artists like Jackson Pollock and Pablo Picasso.

Personal Reaction – I enjoy seeing the works of Andy Warhol because he is a large part of American history. His works are extremely popular and creative. His methods and techniques are very original. He is extremely famous for several of his works of art. It amazes me how inventive he was with his mediums and the trend he was able to set based on his works of art.
